Powder Coating Galvanized Sheet: A Drawing-Review Checklist

Identify the actual substrate

Specify the steel grade and zinc coating rather than writing only 'metal'. Galvanized sheet and aluminium-zinc coated sheet are different substrates; do not substitute one without design approval. Provide any known surface treatment or protective oil information.

Mark the areas that must remain functional

Review threads, close-fit holes, earthing contacts and sliding interfaces. Specify masking and post-finish inspection where necessary. Agree tolerances on the finished part instead of assuming coating has no effect on fit.

Approve the finish as a system

Ask the finishing supplier to propose preparation and curing conditions compatible with the substrate and powder manufacturer's instructions. Agree a sample for color, gloss and texture. Test methods, acceptance criteria and outdoor exposure requirements must be specified separately.
